A highly committed, proficient and hugely knowledgable professional, Moira has worked in the dental nursing environment for over three decades - she now oversees and leads Mentor's team of assessors and verifiers. Prior to working with Mentor since its inception in 1988, Moira had worked both in general dental practice and with Greater Glasgow Health Board in the hospital setting.
Moira has an in-depth knowledge of the national occupational standards, and regularly participates in the standardisation process. In 2012, Mentor Training Centre was recognised for its high standard of teaching and training, whereby Moira was awarded a Medal of Excellence from City & Guilds for 'Outstanding performance in the delivery of NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing'.
In addition to overseeing our professional team, Moira plans assessments, compares evidence against standards, documents all decisions and provides comprehensive feedback. In addition, she is involved in both internal and external audits, and is committed to maintaining the integrity of the qualifications that we deliver.
Moira is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
Having worked in a wide variety of dental settings (both NHS and private practice) over the years, Janette's experience has provided a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of dentistry and patient care.
Janette started her career as a dental nurse, and then qualified from Glasgow Dental Hospital as a hygienist in 1985. She has been teaching and training dental nurses since joining Mentor in 2000, during which time she has also undertaken two recognised teaching qualifications, and engaged in numerous peer observations.
Janette is adept in planning and managing assessments to meet learner needs, whilst priding herself in providing a positive learning experience. These qualities have made her an invaluable teacher who earns the respect and gratitude of her students.
Janette is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
After years of experience in hospital settings and specialist dental practice, Donna has been an assessor with Mentor since 2002.
Donna trained as a dental nurse at Glasgow Dental Hospital before moving to a large private practice in London, where she was eventually responsibe for a team of five nurses. She also trained staff in four-handed dentistry, osseointegration and theatre nursing. Donna gained a certificate in dental radiography, and provided an x-ray service to dentists in London. As well as assessing and Internal Verifying for Mentor, Donna is still active in practice.
Donna is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
With over 20 years of dental nurse experience in routine dental treatment in both NHS and private practice, Lesley-Anne has also specialised in the more complex procedures of surgical interventions and sedation.
Lesley-Anne completed her dental nurse qualification through Mentor in 2000, and is still active in practice. She joined the Mentor team of assessors in 2005, and gained her assessor and internal verifier awards. She has an in-depth knowledge of the National Occupational Standards and regularly participates in the standardisation process.
Lesley-Anne is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
Margaret Thomson
With over 30 years experience in General Dental Practice, Margaret joined Mentor’s team of Dental Assessors in 2015.
Although she passed her National Exam for Dental Nurses many years ago, when the opportunity arose to join our team she successfully undertook the PDA/SVQ Level 3 to help with the delivery and assessment of the most recent qualification.
She is a qualified assessor and her dental experience includes routine treatments at chair-side, supporting trainees, practice management, assisting during treatments carried out under both general anaesthetic and sedation.
Margaret is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
Rowena joined our centre in September 2022 with
32 years of experience in vocational skills assessment including 27 years as an Internal Verifier. She completed her Dental Nursing SVQ Level 3 at SCQF Level 7 with Mentor in March 2024.
Rowena possesses a vast knowledge of designing and delivering SVQ training plans and extensive experience of supporting candidates with additional learning needs and atypical support requirements. Rowena also brings a wealth of experience of contributing to the development of quality systems and of constructing quality improvements.
Rowena is a GDC registrant and regularly takes part in Continual Professional Development.
