Founded in 1988, Mentor Training Centre has successfully helped over 2,000 trainees from around Scotland to become qualified dental nurses - and we continue to do so.
The Dental Nursing Course is aimed at trainees who are already working in a practice, and want to obtain a recognised qualification (SVQ Level 3), leading to GDC registration.
Mentor Training Centre offers a route to qualification based on flexibility for both the Trainee and the Dentist/Practice Manager. Our delivery offers an alternative to online courses because the trainee benefits from classes and hands-on tutorials - plus it’s cost-free up to age 25 as we’re fully funded by SDS (Skills Development Scotland). And although we offer the same qualification as Further Education Colleges, we differ because the Trainee is able to work and develop her/his skills in a practice while wage-earning.
Both in teaching and assessing, we employ a team of committed and fully qualified staff, with many years of occupational experience behind them. Their aim is to ensure trainee qualification with minimum disruption within the surgery during monitoring visits. Assessors will plan and organise suitable times for delivering underpinning knowledge, undertaking assessments, observing workbase tasks and providing constructive feedback on performance. All assessors demonstrate high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy. In addition to regular monitoring visits, the trainee is encouraged to attend tutorials for the progression and completion of their portfolio in preparation for final examination.
As an "Approved Training Organisation" we have been assessed by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) against vigorous criteria including Training Standards and Competence, Organisational Ability, Programme Design and Delivery and Staff Development.
